SAFVIC INSTRUCTOR COURSE

The SAFVIC Instructor Course is for those who want to become instructors of the Sexual Assault Family Violence Investigator Course (SAFVIC).  The class is a 40-hour, week-long class held in Austin , TX.  The next SAFVIC Instructor Course date is listed below.

Having the right group of instructors is absolutely crucial to the program. A SAFVIC Instructor must have an exhaustive knowledge of the program and the available resources. They must be effective communicators and teachers and must show a true dedication to improving law enforcement's response to family violence and sexual assault. A list of the instructor qualifications follows. All applicants must be commissioned peace officers in the State of Texas. As becoming an instructor becomes more competitive, we will be scored on the following criteria:

 

•  Level of TCLEOSE license certification

•  Instructors certificate

•  Demonstrated interest in the field of sexual assault or family violence investigation

•  Working knowledge of computers, especially Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

•  Proven public speaking ability

•  Positive role model within the department and the community

•  Geographical location

•  Must have taken and passed the 3-day SAFVIC

The SAFVIC staff will focus on reaching and attaining their training goals by assisting certified SAFVIC Instructors with the coordination of their classes.  Also, SAFVIC staff members will be monitoring the Sexual Assault and Family Violence Investigator Courses throughout.

SAFVIC Instructor Responsibilities 

The SAFVIC Instructor will be the local point of contact and resource for local law enforcement agencies and they will act as the coordinator for the local victim support coalitions. In addition to those duties, SAFVIC Instructors will be responsible for teaching the SAFVIC three-day curriculum and certifying participants. SAFVIC Instructors will be asked to teach a minimum of two classes, however, aggressive instructors could and should hold more classes if possible. 

 

SAFVIC Instructor Compensation

Grant funding allows for the instructors to be compensated on a contractual basis for administering the program and coordinating the coalition effort. Upon successful completion of the SAFVIC Instructor Course, instructors will be eligible to recover the cost of lodging, meals, and travel during the course. Instructors will receive $750 (minimum of 10 students) for a three day class. For additional students, instructors will be compensated at a rate of $20 per student, not to exceed 35 students. Potentially instructors could receive $1,250 per class. Also instructors will be compensated $32 per hour (not to exceed $2,000) for their time spent coordinating the local coalition effort and acting as a local point of resource.
