SAFVIC for Telecommunications Professionals (TCP) Instructor Course: 24-hour TCLEOSE Credit

Having the right group of instructors is absolutely crucial to the program. A SAFVIC for Telecommunication Professionals Instructor must have an exhaustive knowledge of the program. They must be good communicators and teachers. They must also show a true dedication to improving the response to family violence and sexual assault. A list of the instructor qualifications follows. Each applicant will be scored on a point system based on the following criteria:
• Must have taken and passed the SAFVIC for TCPs course
• Prefer TCLEOSE Advanced Telecommunicator Certification
• Previous experience as an instructor is highly preferred
• Working knowledge of computers, especially Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
• Demonstrated interest in the field of sexual assault or family violence investigation
• Proven public speaking ability
• Positive role model within the department and the community
• Geographical location
• Minimum of 5 years Telecommunicator experience
• Letter of recommendation from supervisor
Training for the instructors will be 3 days/24 hours of classroom study, including a presentation. The training for certified instructors includes information about adult teaching techniques, judicial and medical response to these crimes, and services available to victims. Students attending the SAFVIC for TCPs Instructor Course will receive 24-hours TCLEOSE credit for the course.
SAFVIC Instructors Responsibilities
Instructors will be responsible for teaching the SAFVIC for TCPs 8-hour curriculum. Instructors will be asked to teach a minimum of four classes within one year of completing the Instructor Course. This is, however, minimum and aggressive instructors could and should teach more.
SAFVIC Instructor Compensation
T
he grant funding allows for instructors to be compensated on a contractual basis for administering the program. Upon successful completion of this SAFVIC Instructor Course, instructors will be eligible to recover the cost of lodging, meals, and travel during the course. Subsequent work will be compensated as follows: Instructors will receive $250 for the 8-hour class (for a minimum of 10 students). For additional students, instructors will be compensated at $7 per student up to 35 total students. Potentially, instructors could receive $425 per class.
